As of the 1 January 2015, North Rhine Westphalia will increase the land transfer tax on the purchase of property from the current 5% to 6.5% of the value of the property. This is already the second increase in this tax in three years, in the state. Property purchasers should therefore take advantage of the period until the end of the year to acquire property in Düsseldorf at the present rate of tax.
