A stroke of luck in history

For 10 years FRANKONIA Eurobau struggled to be allowed to build on the very last prime piece of land in the cultural center of Berlin. It is therefore both a special privilege and an obligation to make history tangible here. And a historic opportunity to interpret the site's Prussian architectural culture in a contemporary and authentic way in order to lead it into the future. House N°3 Schinkelplatz stands for this like no other. The concept "From Prussia to Europe" outlines the idea behind it.

BERLIN SCHINKELPLATZ - FROM PRUSSIA TO EUROPE

With the site on Schinkelplatz, between the Foreign Office and Unter den Linden and between Friedrichwerder Church and the new Berlin Palace, FRANKONIA Eurobau has taken on the great responsibility of continuing a central piece of Berlin's built history. The name of the project "Schinkelplatz Berlin - from Prussia to Europe" already indicates the magnitude of this task and the respect for it. As part of an architectural competition, the designs of the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Rafael Moneo, the architects of the Federal Chancellery, Charlotte Frank and Axel Schultes, and the architects Julia Tophof and Norbert Hemprich were selected for the various areas of the ensemble. Moneo included the historically important Werderscher Markt and the neighboring Friedrichwerder Church in his considerations with his office building. He gave both of them back their urban significance as conceived by Schinkel. And he used the same natural stone for the façade that was also used for the palace of Emperor Charles V in the Alhambra in Granada. The Bertelsmann Foundation moved into the highly prestigious premises. Tophof and Hemprich took up the narrow development in Niederlagstrasse, which had existed since the Middle Ages. They created an office building, which is also home to the Bertelsmann Foundation, as well as two residential buildings that visually appear to merge with the Friedrichwerder Church. Frank and Schultes, on the other hand, developed N°3 Schinkelplatz: "It is both a box and a stage for the play called Metropole."

Courage for clarity out of humility before previous master builders

N°3 Schinkelplatz impresses from the the outside with its clear, reduced lines and the combination of a of a soberly kept natural stone façade with oval arranged panoramic windows behind curved glass balcony balustrades. The luxurious apartments behind them can only be guessed at. Magnificently furnished and equipped with contemporary art, they not only offer a magnificent view over the Spree Canal of the new city palace and the Berlin Cathedral. They also have balconies and roof terraces that face the quiet, green inner courtyard.

In less than five minutes you can reach the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, the Lustgarten, the Humbodt-Forum, the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum and the Deutsches Historisches Museum. In less than 15 minutes you can be at Gendarmenmarkt and the Konzerthaus, the Nikolai Quarter and Hack­scher Markt. You should take some time to explore the most important street in Berlin, Unter den Linden, just around the corner due to its many attractions.
